WHY WOMEN ?

(GCSD has helped all these women build a toilet+bathroom in rural Bangalore)

Here is an interesting article: Snakebites, diarrhoea and violence: Why India's rural women need toilets ?

WHAT IS WE BUILD T4W 2016 ?

Mahatma Gandhi communicated a quintessential message to the nation through his efforts to educate people around him about cleanliness. He wished to see a "Clean India" where people work hand in hand to make the country clean. To work seriously towards this vision of Gandhiji, the Indian Prime Minister launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan on October 2, 2014 and asked people from all walks of life to help in successful implementation of this mission (Source).

We have taken up this challenge and added a special component to our annual service learning and volunteer  WE BUILD program. This is the second time we will invite both Indian and International volunteers to join us during WE BUILD for a 3 day (16th, 17th & 18th July) program opportunity. But this is simply not a three day event it is much more.

During these three days volunteers (students/corporates) will stay in rural Bangalore in a village setting in camping tents to build toilet/s cum bathroom for a poor family/ies and engage in awareness raising activites related to sanitation in the village. There will be side events such as trekking/trailwalk and arts and crafts workshop for local village children.
